UNISTRUT
EXTRUDE

Model a real Unistrut channel right where you need it. Pick a face — on your model or a linked one — and the strut extrudes perpendicular to it, at the point you clicked. Place a whole run in one go. Length and rotation stay editable, so adjusting it later is a number, not a rebuild.

SHEET 01 · THE PROBLEMSTRUT BY HANDREV A
The problem

Modeling strut in Revit fights you.

Generic blocks don't read as Unistrut. Real families are heavy and fiddly to place at an angle on someone else's wall. So strut gets faked — or skipped.

You need a length of channel on the underside of a slab, off the face of a beam, or hung from a linked structural model. Native Revit makes you set a work plane, find the right family, fight the placement, then fix the length. Do that fifty times across a coordination model and it's the afternoon gone.

Unistrut Extrude makes it a click. Choose the profile once, then drop strut after strut by clicking faces — host or linked:

  • The strut lands at the point you click, perpendicular to that face
  • Set the length by number, or drag it out to a second point
  • Place a whole run without reopening the dialog — Esc when you're done
  • Adjust length or rotation later in Properties; the channel rebuilds itself
SHEET 02 · HOW IT WORKSPICK · CLICK · PLACEREV A
How it works

From profile to placed run in one dialog.

One button on the FULCRUM VDC ribbon. Set it up once, then click your way down the model.

01

Choose the profile

Pick from the 1-5/8" Unistrut series — P1000 through P5500 — true lipped-C sections from the General Engineering Catalog.

02

Set length, category, color

Type a length (5'-0" default) or choose "pick the end point." Create the strut under any DirectShape-valid category — Structural Framing by default — in any material color.

03

Click a face

Click a flat face on a host element or inside a linked .rvt / .ifc / 3D .dwg. Links and pinned elements are made selectable for you, then restored.

04

Place the run

The strut extrudes perpendicular to the face, at your click. Keep clicking to drop more with the same settings; press Esc to finish.

05

Adjust anytime

Select a strut and edit Length or Rotation in Properties → Dimensions. The channel — slots and all — rebuilds to match.

SHEET 03 · THE DETAILSBUILT RIGHTREV A
The details

Real channel, not a stand-in block.

  • True 1-5/8" section. The real lipped-C profile — 7/8" mouth, in-turned return lips — sized per the catalog's Channel Selection Chart for each part number.
  • Rolled the way it's made. The formed bends are radiused like real roll-formed channel; only the cut lip tips stay sharp.
  • Standard slotted web. The Unistrut "T" slots are punched in the back — 9/16" × 1-1/8" obround holes, 2" on center, first slot 1" from each end.
  • Editable length & rotation. Each strut carries Length and Rotation parameters; change the number and a background updater re-extrudes the solid — so a DirectShape behaves like a parametric part.
  • Behaves like a model element. One channel solid per strut, named and tagged with its part number — schedule it, filter it, color it, and clash it in Navisworks.
SHEET 04 · WHY FREENO CATCHREV A
Why free?

Because the model should keep up with the field.

We built Unistrut Extrude because strut belongs in the coordination model, not penciled in later — and modeling it by hand was the reason it kept getting left out. It's our way of giving the AEC community a hand.

Free, no card, no trial clock. A one-time Fulcrum Hub sign-in on first use lets us support the tool and let you know about fixes — that's the whole ask.

SHEET 05 · FAQSTRAIGHT ANSWERSREV A
FAQ

Questions, answered.

How does it place a strut?

You click a flat face — on your own model or inside a loaded link — and the strut is built at that point, extruded perpendicular to the face. Keep clicking to place more, and press Esc when you're done. Set the length to a fixed value, or pick a second point to drag the length out from the face.

Can it build off linked models?

Yes. The face can come from a host element, a linked Revit (.rvt / .ifc) model, or a 3D imported .dwg. The tool turns Select Links and Select Pinned on during the pick and restores your settings afterward. A 2D .dwg has no face to pick.

Which Unistrut profiles are included?

The 1-5/8" series single channels — P1000, P1100, P2000, P3000, P3300, P4000, P4100, P5000, and P5500 — as true lipped-C cross-sections with rounded roll-formed bends and the standard slotted back web (9/16" × 1-1/8" obround holes, 2" on center, first slot 1" from each end).

Can I change a strut after placing it?

Yes. Each strut carries Length and Rotation parameters in Properties. Type a new value and the channel rebuilds itself, slots and all — even though it's a DirectShape solid.

Which Revit versions are supported?

Revit 2024, 2025, and 2026. (2027 follows once its .NET 10 toolchain ships.)

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It's free. A one-time Fulcrum Hub sign-in is required on first use so we can support the tool and let you know about updates — no card, no trial wall.

SmartScreen warned me about the download.

Expected for now — the build is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may flag the first run. Choose More infoRun anyway.
